What's New for Celebrity Cruises?
In December 2014, Celebrity officially signed a letter of intent with French shipbuilder STX France to commission two new vessels. Developed under the project name EDGE, the two 2,900-guest, 117,00 gross ton ships will introduce a new ship class to Celebrity's fleet, built upon the modern luxury experience of the Millennium and Solstice class levels. The focus of Project EDGE will be to deliver small ship itineraries partnered with large ship amenities for a truly lavish experience. The two new ships, yet to be named, are also being created with environmentally friendly ship design in mind, featuring new technologies to drive significant fuel efficiency and a dedication to the use of sustainable materials.
Beginning in 2014, Celebrity now offers a "Top Chef at Sea" program. This exclusive partnership with Bravo's "Top Chef" is featured on all cruises departing between July 2014 and June 2015, with the exception of Celebrity Xpedition. Guests on these cruises can enjoy Quickfire challenges as well as Top Chef-inspired menus in the main restaurant. In addition, four select sailings will feature former contestants onboard. On these sailings guests can participate in activities, lectures, demonstrations, and even special dinners.
Celebrity Reflection, the fifth Solstice Class vessel, debuted in October 2012. Celebrity Reflection was the latest of the Solstice Class vessels to introduce "The Lawn Club Grill," an industry-first outdoor, interactive grill venue. Michael's Club, a venue found aboard every Celebrity ship, has been restyled on these ships. It's now a casually elegant bar, with a selection of over 50 international beers (including flavorful craft beers), rare malts, whiskies and scotches, as well as 46" TV screens, gourmet potato chips and breadsticks. Celebrity Reflection was the first in the fleet to debut the industry-first AquaClass Suites, following in the footsteps of their sister ships' AquaClass staterooms.
With their "Designed for You" platform, Celebrity Cruises "Solsticized" their four Millennium Class ships. Celebrity Constellation (during April 2010), Celebrity Infinity (December 2011), Celebrity Summit (January 2012) , and Celebrity Millennium (May 2012). These already beautiful ships received many features that originally debuted aboard Celebrity's new Solstice Class ships. Among these exciting enhancements were the addition of Tuscan Grille and Bistro on Five; the addition of an Enomatic wine bar; restyled staterooms; new furniture, bedding and flat-screen TVs in suites; as well as a new color scheme, carpeting and upholstery that reflects the Solstice Class style in the public areas of these ships. |
